Making Mom's Tomato Sauce (inset showing detail)
My parents made tomato sauce several different ways, but my mother told he she always added red vermouth to her sauce. I thought that was odd until it hit me that she liked to drink a Manhattan before dinner and so of course the red vermouth would be on the counter within reach when cooking. So, I added her Manhattan and her crystal highball glass in this composition of her tomato sauce ingredients.
