Canna lilies (acrylic on canvas)
We headed off to spend two weeks at a cottage in Port Colborne Ontario having loaded paintbrushes, canvasses and easels in the car -- but forgetting my oil paints! Oh Woe! I had only a few acrylic paints that I normally only use to give an undertone to my oil paintings. I really don't like painting with acrylics because of their fast-drying tendency and their lack of luminosity and transparency (at least in my hands). But on the flip side, one is therefore encouraged to paint quickly, don't overwork, just get the paint down and leave it. Here the acrylics worked in my favor to capture the breath of canna lilies, a drawing I had done a few years ago.
